Report suggests Google managed sell over 2.1 million Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones Worldwide

Google has managed to sell over 2.1 million Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones since their launch last year, according to a report. This news comes despite the fact that Google has struggled in the past to keep the two devices in stock due to their popularity. While 2.1 million units may seem like a small figure compared to other manufacturers such as Samsung and Apple, this figure definitely trumps the number of Nexus devices which were shipped in the past. The Pixel devices are also sold in only a few regions around the world, while Samsung and Apple market their devices in almost every country around the globe.

However, last year analysts predicted that the Mountain View company would be able to ship 3 million Pixel devices by the end of 2016, but that prediction has turned out to be false. It is also estimated that Google might be able to ship up to 6 million Pixel handsets by the end of 2017. The Pixel and Pixel XL are manufactured by Taiwanese electronics firm, HTC. The two handsets are considered by many as the best smartphones of 2016, having ticked the boxes in most aspects. On top of that, the two smartphones have been rated as the best camera smartphone of all time, but that might soon change as more and more manufacturers launch their flagships as the year progresses.

The Pixel and Pixel XL share the same specs save for the screen size, resolution and battery capacity. Both devices are equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 System-on-Chip along with an Adreno 530 graphics chip. Memory wise, they come with 4GB of RAM and either 32GB or 128GB of internal storage. For optics, they are equipped with a 12-megapixel main camera coupled with an 8-megapixel front-facing sensor for taking the all-important selfies. Software wise, the two devices run on Android 7.1 Nougat and come with Google Assistant pre-installed, which is one of the main highlights of the Pixel smartphones. The smaller Pixel packs a 5-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 and a 2,770 mAh battery, while the larger Pixel XL carries a 5.5-inch 2560 x 1440 AMOLED panel, and a 3,450 mAh battery.
